“It was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and I hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and ordered a cafe au lait. The waiter brought it and I took out a notebook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write"
~Ernest Hemingway~
The most depressing inner-monologue I have ever heard a cat give voice to. Poor dear sir, while you bring up some valid feelings and observations, you've just got to suck it up. 'Cause that's life. *lesigh*
ReplyDeleteAlso, I appreciate the French. :)
Lol, I enjoyed the second one the most. I think he just needs to see the world through a clearer, or completely different lens. The world can be a beautiful place, if you are only willing to open yourself to it! It's all about the attitude, I think. I think the reason I find it funny though, is that I can relate, because I've gone through a time of thinking like this, and looking back, I see how little sense it made. And yet, it was a necessary stepping stone.
DeleteThe French is amusing, hehe. Is the accent as bad as many of the commenters claim it is?
I think that we cannot discredit the cat's perspective, saying that it is nonsensical or unclear. You, yourself, have been there, as have I. It is just a different perspective that may or may not prove to be unhealthy longterm. Thus, a shift to a newer, more positive viewpoint is/may be made out of necessity.
DeleteAs for the intent of these short films, they are very reminiscent of numerous French classics made in the style of Nouvelle Vague. The use of the cat may be used to poke fun at this style, or may actually be intended to bridge the gap between eras and make the subject matter more approachable to a modern audience.
Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard are directors to check out if you are interested in the Nouvelle Vague movement. There are many clips on youtube that you can check out. :)
I interpreted this as a jab at angst-y French philosophers... Do you know if that was the intention?
