“It was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and I hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and ordered a cafe au lait. The waiter brought it and I took out a notebook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write"

Inspiring Music: Muse

The drag show was last night, and I had a blast! But I want to wait to post about that until I have pictures to show you, which should be this week. However, it did remind me of something I wished to talk about that inspires me a lot.

Recent Read: Daughter of Fortune

I love reading. So when I come across a really good book, I want to share it with others who might be interested.

I just finished reading Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende.

Dragalicious!

I'm going to start with a disclaimer: I know only a few members of this blog in person, and don't know the full scope of who all reads this and what views there are of sexuality in our readership. I myself am not opposed to homosexuality/bisexuality/transgenderism/transexuality/pansexuality and the like; if you have a problem with non-heterosexual related posts, you may want to skip this one. (Also, if you can let me know in the future whether or not these disclaimers are necessary.) While I'm heterosexual, or at least 98% heterosexual, I am an Ally, and in particular, I love doing things, like drag, that challenge gender norms.

Imgur Gold: "Laser Cut Paper"

I was going to try to limit to a post a day, but this belongs here.

I browse Imgur a lot, and this set of images, entitled "Laser Cut Paper," just appeared.

Wow!!!!!

So Why "The Morrigan"?

In case any of you were wondering about my username, this is a prime time not only to explain that, but also talk about something that inspires me a lot.

The Morrigan is a goddess from Celtic mythology. She is the goddess of war and sovereignty. Often found on battlefields, and can shapeshift into a wolf or an eel.

I get a lot of my mythology knowledge from Wikipedia, so if any of that is wrong, I apologize.

Anyway, I do know for sure she's a goddess of war and she is NOT nice. It began when I was making a Halloween costume two Halloweens ago. My senior year roomie--let's call her "Eponine"--helped me sew this cavalcade.

What do you see?

Yeah if I had to use that as a cake topper, he's probably not the one.

My Spirit Sibling

For my first post, I thought I'd share with you a writer who I am continually finding pleasure in exploring the works of. You've probably heard of him before.

This is H.P. Lovecraft.

Enter the Morrigan

Hi, everyone! So I'm the newest member of Café Effervescence.

I'm kind of loud and hyper, so what you'll be seeing from me is probably crazy stuff. Inspiring, yes. But crazy all the same.

I'm excited to contribute!

Breathe Out

I just found this short little blog post on inspiration... I think it's right! Even though it takes some effort to get started on a project, it's necessary to create things yourself to keep the creative process moving, and you learn more by doing things.

..so this means I (we) have to actually DO something with those inspiring fabric finds!

Fabric!

Although my fabric collection is nowhere near the size of my mother's, I collected a few pieces this weekend. The fabric store had 17 inch square samples of discontinued upholstery/curtain fabrics for $1 apiece, and I couldn't resist. I like them all, and I don't have any specific projects in mind for any one piece... So, tell me which is your favorite, and someday we'll do a craft and you can have that piece!

I'm giving them made-up-on-the-spot names for reference:

Flower Print (this photo is little washed out in the beige parts):

Painting:

Contemporary Circles:

Pastel Paisley:

Textured Red:

Scales of Many Colors:

Also, I've had a remnant of this for a while and would be happy to figure out what (else) to make with it:

Cream Flourishes (looks grey here but is really cream):

I'm currently creating a journal with a brown-and-blue paisley piece from the same store samples, and I'm wondering how I can make it not just a plain journal but a portfolio piece. My best idea so far is to do a cut-out shape in the cover.... and maybe a closure of some sort? Let me know if you have any ideas or if you've seen a cool and unusual feature of a journal - the paisley is so interesting and beautiful that I don't want to cover it up by doing the spine or corners with another material!

Happy crafting!

"First they came..."

First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.
