“It was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and I hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and ordered a cafe au lait. The waiter brought it and I took out a notebook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write"

Fabric!

Although my fabric collection is nowhere near the size of my mother's, I collected a few pieces this weekend. The fabric store had 17 inch square samples of discontinued upholstery/curtain fabrics for $1 apiece, and I couldn't resist. I like them all, and I don't have any specific projects in mind for any one piece... So, tell me which is your favorite, and someday we'll do a craft and you can have that piece!

I'm giving them made-up-on-the-spot names for reference:

Flower Print (this photo is little washed out in the beige parts):

Painting:

Contemporary Circles:

Pastel Paisley:

Textured Red:

Scales of Many Colors:

Also, I've had a remnant of this for a while and would be happy to figure out what (else) to make with it:

Cream Flourishes (looks grey here but is really cream):

I'm currently creating a journal with a brown-and-blue paisley piece from the same store samples, and I'm wondering how I can make it not just a plain journal but a portfolio piece. My best idea so far is to do a cut-out shape in the cover.... and maybe a closure of some sort? Let me know if you have any ideas or if you've seen a cool and unusual feature of a journal - the paisley is so interesting and beautiful that I don't want to cover it up by doing the spine or corners with another material!

Happy crafting!
